What is FixCarbon?

Tackling climate change will be one of the most challenging tests for humans over the next decade. FixCarbon.com is not, in it’s own right, a solution to the problem. Our aim is, firstly, to educate people on how they can help reduce their emissions naturally (see our green living section) and secondly, to donate at least 50% of our revenues towards carbon reduction projects. We do this through a non-profit organisation called The Carbon Fund, which we have selected independently out of a number of carbon-offset organisations.

How does searching help?

Everytime you search, FixCarbon receives a small fee. Of this fee, we have pledged to donate at least 50% to clean technology and energy efficiency programs.

How can I help?

Simply save www.FixCarbon.com as your homepage and use it for all your web searches. Every search will help offset carbon emissions! While this is not an exact science, we estimate that every search offsets approximately one to two kilograms of carbon, which equates to about 5-10 miles in a car, according to latest carbon offset prices at the Carbon Fund. 5 searches a day over a year, will help offset, approximately, the carbon produced from 6 flights from London to New York or 35,000 miles in your car.

So by simply going about your daily business on the internet, you will be helping to invest in projects that focus on carbon reduction through energy efficiency programs and in the development of clean technology that could make a significant difference to our future.

How much Carbon Do I produce?

The average amount of carbon emitted per person globally, is close to 4 tonnes of CO2 per year. However, in the Western world people tend to burn more fossil fuels resulting in a higher average of carbon emissions per person. As an example, the average US consumer emits an average of 10 tonnes of CO2 per year according to the US Department of Energy Information Agency. While using FixCarbon will help fund a number carbon reduction projects, we feel the most direct and immediate impact can be best achieved by cutting personal emissions. To see how to achieve this, you can visit our green living page for ideas on how to reduce your emissions further.

How do I produce Carbon emissions?

Every time you drive your car, fly somewhere on holiday or even when using your computer, you are contributing to the increase in levels of CO2 in the atmosphere. These high levels of emissions are leading to an increase in temperatures, today known as global warming.

Some of the main sources of greenhouse gases due to human activity include:

  • Burning of fossil fuels
  • Deforestation
  • The use of fertilizers in farming
